Pros

The pay is good for as long as your job remains in-country. The pace is mostly reasonable, but it can suddenly change due to what often looks like the whim of upper management - it may be more structured, but it does not appear to be so.

Cons

R&D jobs are moving offshore faster than you can blink, and the quality of the (replacement) labor is so low as to be immeasurable. For people still working in R&D, the pressures continue to mount - and the pool of talent is shrinking rapidly.

Pros

The company is changing with the times. Going private was a great move for Avaya. The uncertainty of the stock market does not seem to be as scary since we don't see the ups and downs of the market on a daily basis.

Cons

The company is changing with the times, sometimes too much. Since we are not public, and don't get regular reports on our financial performance, it is sometimes hard to tell how we are doing as a company. When outsourcing some of our call center activities, it leaves the feeling that the company is looking to get as lean as possible, to show a greater profit to be made available for a quick sale.

Pros

Good technology, leadership in the industry, especially call center. They have good research and development, and very solid products in many areas. The benefits package is as good as any place that I've seen, and I think the pay scale matches most of the industry. Now that Silver Lake Partners has purchased Avaya it isn't at the mercy (as much) of shareholders and the stock market.

Cons

Big company problems, lots of bureaucracy, still mired in old school thinking in many ways... it was the Dilbert cube farm when I left, with some really poor mid level management (seemed out of touch, just trying to hang on until retirement).
