Pros

Now that they are private, I can't think of a reason. It is a very difficult and mediocre place to work.

Cons

The ship is rudderless and senior management seems to be the only ones who don't know it. I don't think anyone in senior management has noticed that people just don't show up for work anymore. They were reasonably upbeat -- but suspicious -- when the company went private but the former management team has been largely removed and replaced with people who haven't had time to find out where the bathroom is -- let alone leading the company forward. It is an environment where they are cutting their way to making the numbers.

Pros

You don't have to be very good at what you do. Avaya is a place where you can work (or not work) as much as you want as long as you are there the required number of hours per day. It's almost impossible to get fired, especially if you are one of the union workers. You can treat customers as badly as you like, ignore their issues and provide incompetent services and not have to worry about getting fired.

Cons

Management is focused on sales and not product development or personal development. Raises will not keep pace with inflation and you will never see any bonuses, even if they are promised. You will be surrounded by a bunch of people who hate their jobs which will translate into poor job performance thus making everyone's job even harder. There will be practically no training opportunities.

Pros

As a engineer, don't work there if you haven't join it.

Cons

Avaya is full of "old" engineers (working there over 15, 20, or event 30 years). They never ever want any change, refuse to accept any new stuff, They know nothing except some very specific stuff only used inside the company. They are just mediocre engineers but think themselves as great Bell Lab scientists. I was laid off by Avaya in my second year long time ago, when I look back now, I feel I am so lucky to be laid off and didn't become one of those old Avayaers.
