Pros

Opportunity to work on new technology products and services. Ample chances to work with senior managment (e.g., VP, Sr. VP levels)

Cons

Business owners short term strategy of downsizing and outsourcing key functions (R&D, market research, sales, technical support...) to raise funds to pay debt Command and control management style used by the top executives and their direct reports = micro-managment is the norm. Execution of specific orders are valued by management. Initiative and innovation is not rewarded. No decisions are made without review and approval up through the Executive Council manager (e.g. CMO)

Pros

Avaya is a great place to work. They provide a diverse range of positions suitable for almost any career point. The health care benefits are very good, including 401K and pension plans. Lots of internal training is available, including off site courses. They have always done a good job of building morale and team work through company "unwinders" and off site team building activities. Avaya is a well recognized name that delivers a solid product line. I would not hesitate to work for them again if another opportunity presented itself in the future.

Cons

Just like any large company, Avaya has always seemed to be top heavy with management. Most of the middle managers are good, but new directors come and go, each bringing their own management style, some good and some just lousy.

Pros

Good pay relative to other companies. Management is very good about letting people work from home. Good medical benefits and generous vacation package

Cons

Very difficult to get promoted. Unless you have an advocate pushing for you, you are on your own. VP's often have no real understanding of projects they manage. Work gets delegated down until ultimately only the folks at Manager and Senior Manager level are the ones getting anything done. The company has gone through massive layoffs over the past 2 years and there are reorg's every 6 months. It is impossible to feel that there is any job security in an environment like this.
