Pros

PBX market leader. Reasonable benefits. Supportive of working at home. Good percentage of technical co-workers are high quality individuals.

Cons

Bloated middle management with little effective policy control. Rampant cronyism and promotion rarely based on performance. Different sections of the company are siloed thiefdoms that don't cooperate or communicate. Company employee intranet websites are a complete mess. The XMS expense system, and the eProject timesheet web page is torturous. Corporate expense policies are unrealistically low-balled (daily meals $30/day, cell phone $40/mo - the list is endless.) I'd guess typical salaries are around the 50th percentile. i.e. You can do a lot better elsewhere.

Pros

If you need a break in your career and wish to coast for a while, this is a good place to do that ... likely if you have family / external responsibilities. It is TOO EAST to fly under-the-radar at this company and expectations are quite low. Quality-of-life experience outside the office is generally high.

Cons

VERY low output expectations (although quality expectations are high). Skills likely to get rusty as technologies in use are often outdated and not leading-edge.

Pros

Avaya is a quality driven company that continues to hire personnel with good records and communication skills. It provides the opportunity to work from home and use the tools that we offer our customers to excel in their business markets.

Cons

People continue to be laid-off every quarter because Avaya is moving to off-shore as many jobs that are not customer facing. Due to the economy and the reformulating of the company Avaya's allegience to good employees is missing. As internal employees are being let go, HR has no obligation to return calls or reply to inquires about job posting. This gives the idea that they do not care for their employees.
