Pros

Some pockets of innovative science are still happening.

Cons

Culture of fear and lack of transparency has been established under the current senior leadership. Some areas have a bullying problem. The requirement to be in the office 60+% of the time is enforced by checking your Internet traffic, even if you're on video calls all day. People are overworked and burning out.

Pros

Relatively good pay and benefits Busy days but nothing comparable to academia, in term of stress

Cons

They simply don't care about people, particularly "newbies" (1-2 years). You need to put your goals and do your best, but: - if they decide to cut people, as a newbie you'd be just sacrificed for the "greater good"; - in this case, you could be mobbed, harassed and pushed to accept their "generous" offer, which is 5 months of salary; - in case you want to stay, they will start with the "silence treatment" for 2/3 months, then they will call another meeting to tell you that "your are working less, and your colleagues are overworking (false, since you're the one being in the lab all the long managing your own projects and the colleagues one)", pushing you to a sudden meeting with HR because "there's no ground for careeer progression". so, they don't care about mortgages, families and lifechoice you have made because they have bold ambition. But "Hey, we care about you but we need to think about the company, too".

Pros

Really smart people Great facilities Interesting science

Cons

Has been described as a passive-aggressive organisation which is very true - hard to get things done People generally unhappy and disengaged, due to low pay, high workloads and little transparency from upper management Not the most innovative of Big pharma - content to fast follow and acquire late stage assets once validated rather than invest in their own original R&D Hard to get promoted and unclear what is required to progress
