Pros

Pay and benefits. If you are looking for a job where you can just maintain the status quo. Some great people to work with in some areas.

Cons

Difficult work environment. Provincialism and clickiness in certain groups takes away from the ability to make progress for the company. Nasty passive aggressive middle and senior management in many areas. Mid-sized company with limited alternatives for career growth and areas of interest. Over the years, subject to cyclical business with layoffs to be expected every 3-4 years.

Cons

1. cant trust upper mangament for long term employment. 2. too much moving to china, or india for parts and software 3. Seems Amat is on a path to imitate Intel like treatment of their employees, Not a possitive thing for the individual. 4. Benifits are trending to be more expensive to employee while degrading in coverage.

Pros

The work is cutting edge, AMAT has a tremendous portfolio of intellectual property, a large and global customer base and is located in the bay area.

Cons

The work can be physically demanding and requires extended on-site presence several times of the week. There is often a lack of communication between different groups and managers leading to lost time, lost revenue and lost market share. Too many layers of management sometimes reduces the visibility of the people who actually do the hard work.
