Pros

diverse on some teams good work/life balance because of the disorganization some fun coworkers fully remote

Cons

chaos front to back no real vision leadership is mentally checked out on many teams poor tracking of goals / almost never meeting them no real accountability people don't seem to care about the talent lack of transparency or honesty cross-functionally mediocre people in critical roles below average pay no culture, everyone is looking to jump ship to better companies people leave after 6 months after being fed up of going nowhere here bad communication (internal slack is dead)

Pros

Andela seems to have a knack in attracting awesome, talented individuals - there's good energy in the organization and they value human interaction even though they're a remote company. The veneer of a positive, collaborative culture is very real - but only as resilient as the week on week performance of the business. When times are great - there's no better place to be.

Cons

Heavily VC funded, it's doubtful by this auther that the founders vision will be fully realized, especially if they need to grow the company during challenging times. Approximately once every 18 months, for the last 3-4 years - there have been waves of layoffs. Attrition at the staff level (not engineering talent) is significant - sometimes without any warning. I've seen top performers being asked to give more, weekends, holidays, etc - only to be released with no advance warning or reasonable explanation. When times get challenging - nobody is safe.

Startup going through an identity crisis

Pros

Some things that have not changed are the great people - our software engineers and colleagues are a pleasure to work with. There are some people who genuinely care about the trajectory of the company and the work that they do, especially people who joined when Andela was still very much a mission-driven org.

Cons

This is my personal view but a year ago I would have rated the company a 4 or 5 and that, unfortunately, is no longer the case. It's no secret that there has been many organizational and leadership changes, which is par for the course within a startup, but the management of these changes has been very poorly executed. The company also has an identity crisis about the type of company that they are and where they fit in the marketplace. It doesn't feel like they have found product-market fit and struggle increasingly because they have also lost a number of good people who actually cared about the impact of what they're doing. Nowadays there is a general sense of apathy and lack of compassion and higher-ups do not want to hear anything negative about the company or processes, even when it is constructive criticism that will help the company.
