Pros

Looks good on the resume

Cons

I noticed that they were actively hiring and felt compelled to write a review. - I worked at Andela for two years and met some great people. You could not find one person who has good things to say about the company. - Ask them if there is anyone at the company who's been promoted? There isn't - Ask them who has worked with them for longer than a year? A couple, mostly executives - Ask them how many people have been fired/left Andela these past two years? Hundreds, during my time there were at least 5 mass firings. - Ask them how many people in the sales team are hitting quota? Maybe one or two out of dozens. - Ask them what is the average tenure at Andela? A few months... This company is a black hole. I've seen dozens and dozens of young, bright, and motivated workers slowly wither and die at this company. The happiest day for everyone at Andela was the day they either got fired or quit. Marketing is terrible, sales culture is depressing, the engineers are unhappy (the product) and get paid horribly. Don't be fooled by the good reviews, during my first few months the team was asked to write positive reviews to bump up the score. Things are hard with COVID and people need jobs I understand. But there are a lot of great companies to work for and this isn't one of them. Ignore the 100 million funding, it's been years and there are still not profitable.

Stay far, far away.

Pros

Most co-workers were nice enough and you have a lot of autonomy.

Cons

Do not join Andela. For your own well-being, mental health, and self respect, stay away. You might be lured in by all the perks thrown at you by recruiters and by the nice salary, but it is absolutely not worth it. You’ll be given no work life balance, expected to work on the weekend, and will likely receive little to no onboarding. If you’re on the revenue team, expect to carry a full quota with no ramp period immediately upon starting. You can expect toxic managers and cross-functional relationships. You can also expect VERY last minute asks (often end of Friday or on the weekends), and to be expected to sacrifice your OOO time to get work done when you were already approved to be out of office. Again, do not join Andela. There are so many fantastic companies hiring right now, and Andela is not one of them. If you appreciate respect, work-life balance, and reasonable expectations, do not join. I’ve worked in many tech companies prior and have dealt with plenty of adversity and disorganization, and Andela makes those experiences seem like perfection. Absolutely awful. Finally, engineers are essentially being exploited, along with clients. Andela often takes home more than 50% of the clients rate for an engineer, leaving the contractor with a small portion of the actual rate the client is paying. It is unethical and absolutely not standard practice in the contractor industry. I personally appreciate ethical business practices, so if you do too, I recommend staying away.
