Pros

Some employees are smart, kind and great to work with. No other pros. Don't trust the fake 5 star reviews on here... you can spot the fake ones if they say anything good about the culture.

Cons

I know a lot of people say this about start-ups but having worked at a lot of them, I can't stress this enough... Andela is the most toxic company I have ever worked at. No one here cares about the company or about making it a better place or even making it a more productive company. Sales and marketing is a disaster. Most employees on the revenue team are already halfway out the door and it's awkward because they don't hide it. I've never seen so much turnover and am still not used to finding out about employees leaving who have only been at the company for 3 to 6 months. And the constant turnover hasn't stopped since I started a year ago. Andela loves to talk and talk about having a great remote culture but they are terrible at it. They have no regard for the actual people in the company including the engineers sourced for clients. Diversity at Andela is nonexistent but we love to pitch diversity to US customers by selling them African engineers... Above all, the main problem at this company is the CEO and the toxic leadership team. They lack direction and strategy but keep make rash business decisions without data or how it could affect employees. Every team, department or strategy is redone every 3 months. Change is so common here that you'll hear this a lot: "change is normal at Andela." And if you question it, you'll be told you're the problem and that it's just like any other start-up. It isn't.

Pros

Good health insurance... New macs if you consider that a perk..

Cons

They don't allow any telecommuting, in fact it is discouraged. The company culture is awful - it's a well known fact that there was infighting amongst the 3 founders. C level management is very hands off so if you can't resolve an issue w/your direct manager and you go to a C level they will give you lip service but not do anything. Very discouraging. Their business model is awful - they train developers in Nigeria and Kenya but make these folks pay for the training. Once the developers have completed training they work remotely for companies (mostly startups). Now if they paid the developers fairly it might not be a bad business model but they only pay the devs $5k! Yes $5K USD -- the company is making money hand over fist while essentially using these developers. The NYC staff salaries are ridiculously low given the amount of $ raised in their various rounds and Andela is based in NYC where the cost of living is so high, so the salaries are not on par. So in closing, they have a bad business model, awful company culture, very low salaries, and if you have ideas for improvement it falls on deaf ears.
