I have been there three and a half years. I love the culture of the company. Kiva Systems has provided an environment where one can really learn about how to build a company from the ground up. I love the focus on innovation. You are allowed to be your own person and to share your suggestions and ideas. We are experiencing exponential growth and everyone works very hard. If you are not ready to work hard, this may not be the place for you.

Cons

Like with any small company that is growing super fast, there are growth pains associated with scalability. One has to be flexible and willing to adapt quickly-it can be a con but also a great challenge to have.

Pros

They treat SDEs pretty well and the pay is pretty decent. Management really does seem to care about people and not in a fake corporate way. You get to build a lego robot as part of orientation and there is some really cool stuff to see around the office. The office location is pretty good as well, it only takes 20 or so minutes to drive from the Boston-ish area.

Cons

They have some issues with balance of work time with life time. Sometimes things seem a little disorganized and last minute.

Pros

A high percentage of people are really smart here, and an effort is made to keep the talent level high. Lots of young people here keeps the environment fun and new ideas coming in. Company culture "makes sense" to me as an engineer. Focused on getting things done and doing them better over time. They do a nice job with company activities, parties, company and departmental meetings, etc. Moving between groups is not uncommon here, and is encouraged, so there are opportunities to work on new items. Company is growing and dynamic so there is room for advancement.

Cons

Facility is getting a bit crowded, but they are opening a new office in Westboro. Some middle managers are not great, but they have "moved on" managers in the past. I do put in a lot of hours some times, but management has taken positive steps for work/life balance. Engineers have a rotating on-call to support their software, which can be annoying.
