Onboarding was poor when I joined - hasn't improved according to recent hires. No guidance from manager. Little guidance from manager - expect you to work on your own. Long hours on ill defined projects that can be cancelled. Tooling has lots of bugs with little or no documentation. Lack good software development practices like project scoping and estimation. Managers put a number out there without proper scoping. When the reality of the project size becomes clear they expect you to work lots of extra hours to make up for the lack of scoping. Much less than average vacation benefits.

The code quality is surprisingly low for a company like Amazon. Upper management can become micro managy depending on the project. Career growth is way slower than Amazon proper, but there is still growth. There is a lack of L6-L7 engineers, L4 engineers that would be L5 on Alexa are deemed "not meeting the bar" at AR, which is ironic because I see a lot of L6 engineers that are barely L5s.
