Pros

If chosen the company will put you through a comprehensive training, includes a trip to Chicago headquarters. Allstate very much encourages career development within the company. Once you're in they'll take good care of you.

Cons

Work can be quite demanding. Shouldn't be too bad if you're highly organized

Pros

PTO balance available at the start of the year instead of accrual Remote work

Cons

Workload is insanely heavy. Training was absolutely terrible and didn’t go over anything that was needed to know the job. When out of training, management admitted to the new training program being terrible but did nothing about it. Was offered 5% 401k match when offered the job, 6 months in they changed the 401k match to 4% and you must contribute 6%. Was told schedule would be 8-4:30, 6 months in got told there is a shift bid you have to go through every year and no promises what you’ll end up with and got stuck with 9-5:30. Medical benefits are TERRIBLE. Extremely expensive, high deductibles and no one accepts the crappy insurance they offer. Systems are outdated and there is no streamline process for anything they do, you have to use 2-3 programs to accomplish one thing, oh and don’t forget you have to use a different browser for each program you use. You are expected to be logged into phones basically all day, which would be a problem if you weren’t taking customer service calls for other peoples claims 2-3 hours of your day. While dealing with those customer service calls, missing your actual customer calls while on the other line actually gets held against you when it comes to your “review” which is also a joke.. Turnover is extremely high because of how terribly the workload is, which constantly leaves teams short staffed and you are expected to pick up on other peoples slack on top of your own work. You will be expected to handle different types of claims that would normally pay a higher salary (such as condo claims) but because they can’t keep anyone in condo dept, you will be told to take condo claims with no training or extra pay. The most annoying thing was preparing repair estimates. You are only given $500 in authority to pay customers so must request auth for basically every customer. But you get no help writing estimates so the auth consultants constantly kick back your auth request because they don’t agree with your estimate. Don’t ever expect to take a lunch or a break. I had to work through my lunches in order to stay afloat or would come back to 10 vmails. I could go on for hours on all of the cons. I’ve never worked for a company for as short of a time as I did at Allstate. I left after 8 months for their main competitor and am blown away with how much better my new job is. When putting in my 2 weeks notice, my manager said I was making a good decision to leave because of how terrible the company is..

Pros

- Your coworkers... that is the only reason 80% of employees are still with Allstate. - PTO time is generous. 22 days to start. 27 days after 5 years of service. You can also buy 5 additional PTO days.

Cons

Where do I start? First and MOST important...Allstate FREQUENTLY has massive layoffs. Allstate decided to lay off tens of thousands of employees in November of 2020. Covid-19 had absolutely nothing to with with this as this was all in the works since December 2019. Each time they have massive layoffs... they realize that they are then understaffed and have to scramble to fill roles. When this happens... can you guess who the additional workload falls back onto...? The ones left standing. - The workload is unmanageable to 90% of the adjusters, therefore, if you are able to keep up with your desk... you will find yourself bailing everyone else out... OFTEN. - To follow on that, if you work ahead... if till APPEAR that you have a lot of free time to help others... even if you work on your personal time to feel somewhat sane. - What is expected in your role changes almost daily. No one in the organization knows which way is up at any given moment. - If you ask a sample of reps how they feel about their jobs or the company... 95% of them will say that they are unhappy. People are dropping like flies and it is a testimony to the work conditions. - They are so desperate to fill seats that they will promote people who are completely undeserving and that is shown after a short time. - There used to be frequent development / promotional opportunities. Those have become nearly inexistent in the past few years. - Your general progression is Liability Determination to Unrepresented to Represented. This is likely your ceiling unless you are one of the favorites. They know who they want for a position before the position is even posted. - There will be excuses as to why you weren’t promoted (pay band promotion) and false promises will be made. EVEN when you have a top tier rating, it will not be enough. Your promotion will come a day later and a dollar short. - I was fortunate to be under great leadership, but the overall organization couldn’t care less about you or any employee for that matter. - Tom Wilson / Glen Shapiro are literally ruining this company on the employees end. - They used to offer Distinguished Performer Awards for a handful of employees from each office, that went out of the window a few years back. I could likely go on for days about the cons when it comes to working for this organization. You are not respected, you are not valued, and you are not going to matter regardless of how hard you work. I was once proud to say that I worked for this company. Ever since senior leadership has come into force, the company has become unrecognizable. Allstate in 2021 is not even close to the company that I started at years ago. I can say with confidence that I gave my all and gave more than 90% of the other reps. That was still not enough. I truly hope for my former coworkers sakes that this company takes a turn for the better, though my hopes are not very high.
