Unrelentingly understaffed constantly. I have taken on the responsibilities of 5 full time employees who have either left the company or been promoted, and I have no backup. I have not been able to take a vacation in 6 years (yes, 6 years, when I took 4 days for my honeymoon). I worked from a hospital room for 8 days after my wife gave birth and had complications because there was literally no one else who could or would perform my job duties. Currently I'm working on average 12 hours per day and have not had a pay increase worth mentioning in 3 years. I have 4 weeks of paid time off per year, which I usually end up having to take as much as I can in half and quarter day increments. Paid time off does not roll over and I've lost over 500 hours in total since I started. Expectation of being on conference calls at 6 am are routine, as well as working until 8 or later, on weekends, on paid holidays, etc.
The company is well aware that as a result of them providing "on the job training" by the time you reach 5-6 years in, you know what you're doing but don't have anything on paper that qualifies you to do it anywhere else. The only reason I am still here is that I know that to leave and go anywhere else would be starting back at square one.
