Pros

My coworkers were pretty nice The hours weren’t bad

Cons

The customers were difficult. Some of the managers were also difficult. Despite having a culture of autonomy for all the employees you would get in trouble for the decisions you made if you didn’t run them by management while also being told by management to just make the best decision.

Customer Service is our bread and butter, it is what has kept us growing for the past 85 years. We empower all of our staff to make decisions based on our motto “The answer is always YES to any reasonable request” Therefore we expect extra effort from our customer service team and encourage them to go the extra mile. Of course mistakes will be made but we take those experiences and use them as teaching moments.

Abt takes great pride in the many first responders and military members that work with us. We are also partnered with the United States Army through their PaYs program to employ veterans and active-duty members of the military. We love to see our employees grow and transfer within the company and this employee not transferring had nothing to do with his military status or work schedule, rather had to do with his poor job performance.

Inside staff and driver installer staff are consistently on different pages. Upper and lower management are incapable of handling problems in a reasonable manner and make brash decisions in regards to their employees. Hours were relentless as I was working over 65 hours weekly. Bonus fund was used to hold people back rather than being a motivator to do better it was held over our heads as a looming punishment as in a low bonus fund means you don’t get raises.

We employee over 1,500 people with the average of them being here well over 10 years. Over the last 82 years, our owners and staff are extremely proud of what we have accomplished together. We believe the knowledge our management team and the family has acquired over the years working together set us up to continue our success for another 82 years and beyond. We are an extremely busy store and there is always a lot of work to be done which the majority of our staff is happy with versus being laid off and unemployed. We are proud to say we have never had a lay off in our history. You might view the bonus fund as negative, but Mr. Abt designed it to be an incentive to do the right thing. A couple million dollars is paid out to our staff every four months along with yearly reviews and raises. We focus on the negative only to correct it and constantly improve. We know it might be hard to not be a part of our great company anymore, but bashing us after you were let go won’t help.
