Pros

- You can get a job as a junior and learn a lot along the way. - They offer more than most contracting companies. Paid holidays, 401(k), etc. - Work life balance is sufficient. If position requires more work they’ll share that upfront. So no unexpected, last minute requests. - You’ll have coworkers from different countries and backgrounds.

Cons

- Recruiters (called business managers at Alten) know very little about the positions they are filling for. - They know very little about their clients and their project/skill set needs. - The lack of knowledge causes gaps in the process, which can leave the employee confused and tackling a bunch of tasks that they didn’t get hired for. - There is no career development or mentorship opportunities.

They don't provide much training or growth despite asking for it as they promised it before signing on Communication is terrible unless you're a favourite of your business manager Can be left sitting idle for up to 6 months Refused to respond to my request of a reference letter

Thank you for you review. As a company, receiving feedback is a priority in order to ensure a long lasting development and we will continue to find ways to improve. Learning and development is at the heart of our career management processes and bringing the appropriate level of support to our employees is a top priority for us. Any training request, whether it is for the purpose of the project your are involved in or your career growth, should be discussed with your Career Manager during dedicated career follow-up meetings. Once agreed, our Training Officer would then take over and trigger the appropriate actions. In 2020, while most companies did not deliver any training due to budget restrictions in the obvious crisis context, Alten provided around 4,000 hours worth of training to its employees. For a company with less than 500 employees, I think it is fair to say that this is not “not much”. As employee satisfaction is one of our main priorities, we do collect feedback through monthly and half-yearly surveys which are the opportunity for employees to express where they see necessary improvements. I you felt that communication from your manager was not at the appropriate level, this could have been raised through these surveys, to our Career Management Advisor, or to HR, in order for us to ensure adjustments were made where necessary. Okay for getting a job straight out of university.

Cons

You're limited contractually to tasks that don't help you grow your skills as an engineer. The business managers are often overworked.

Career development is at the core of the ALTEN model and is managed thoroughly by dedicated Career Managers ensuring the continuity of the development of each consultant. This Career Management scheme is materialized by an Integration Meeting after the start of each engineer, and then by an individual quarterly follow-up in order to ensure both your career and your project are going in the right direction. Each year is wrapped-up by a formal Annual Appraisal during which numerous topics are tackled such Skills Development, Salary, Career Progression, Trainings, etc. We always encourage our employees to take an active part in their career development, hence if you feel your current project and tasks are not challenging enough, we encourage you to have an open discussion with your Career Manager to investigate how we can support developing your skills further.
