Interesting work with some dysfunction

Pros

Friendly program staff who genuinely care about their work. Lots of time off.

Cons

CEO is disengaged and out of touch. CFO is in over their head and has way too much authority, leading to friction, misguided decisions, and a stressful work environment. Huge disparity in pay and little space for innovation, mobility, or cross-disciplinary work. Top leadership is white and most of the diverse staff are at the lowest levels.

Committed and knowledgeable staff. Experts in their field who are being held back by poor leadership.

Cons

Leadership at AFT do not recognize that this is a national organization and should be led as such. Newer leadership changes are leading the organization in a direction that is causing talented staff to flee.

It was a great opportunity to help people and the pay was average.

Cons

There was no training, no business plan, no strategic plan. All employees were salaried and were required to work an avg of 60 hours per week.
