I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at VMware (Palo Alto, CA) in May 2015
Interview
I had a pretty engaging interview. I had 2 phone interviews but was later referred for another position. A quick call with the manager and then I had an onsite interview. Everything was pretty smooth(They took care of all logistics). Interview day was packed with interviews , but i guess it was pretty fun. Not grilling you , but just understanding what you know and how much you are ready to learn. Questions were pretty much straightforward-linked lists , mutex/semaphores , threading , memory allocations ( all was coding based).

Mostly system level and network stuff.
Do prepare well - coding books are definitely helpful.
I applied through college or university. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at VMware (Atlanta, GA)
Interview
The interview process was very unorganized. The first person to interview me was late and didn't find out she was interviewing me until a few minutes before interview. The interview process was a total of 2 hours. I took a group tour first. Pay attention to everything they are showing you during the tour. Then they split us up into groups according to job you're applying for.
