I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Tutor.com in Jun 2013
Interview
You will first complete an online application. Once it is reviewed you will be asked to take a few online tests in subjects you believe you are qualified to teach. After this has been completed, you will be given a week or so to prepare for a mock session in which you "teach" a tutor.com employee and demonstrate your ability. In general, the process is streamlined if you apply for a subject that they need currently (generally calculus, physics, etc. are needed).
I applied online. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at Tutor.com (Baltimore, MD) in Oct 2015
Interview
The paperwork was ridiculous, but once you are past that part it isn't too bad. Afterwards, you set up a phone interview with someone, and they call and quiz you on the software and ask a few questions

Question 1
They asked specific questions on how the software works.

Interview
I applied online. You have to take an exam to show you know the subject you want to tutor in. First, I had a phone interview, they asked basic questions about my history. After that you do a second interview which consists of a fake session with the interviewer acting as a student. Pretty easy if you know the material well. It took about a month to complete the background check.. then ta-da you are a probationary tutor.
