The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Target (New York, NY) in Apr 2012
Interview
I first got in contact with a member of Target's HR team through LinkedIn. They had posted something about the position and I requested more information. After sending my resume, the same recruiter set up a phone interview to talk more about the position and my qualifications. Immediately after the interview she scheduled another phone interview for me and another recruiter. The first recruiter was very helpful and answered a lot of questions I had about the company/culture and expectations. Recruiter also suggested that I research and practice "situational based questions" as those are what the next few rounds would consist of.
At my second phone interview the recruiter asked about 5 situational based questions, but let me know about the format of the interview before we began. Also very helpful, and let me know that I had made it to the next round. Also told me who I should expect to hear from, and when. I heard back sooner than I was told I would.
Following that I had 1:1 interviews with the district leader and HR district parter. The interviews were on the same day, and back to back. I was told to expect to stay in interviews for 1.5 hrs, I was done in around 45minutes.
I was told I would hear back within the week and it only took about 2 days. I was scheduled to then have a job shadow. I was assigned an ETL at a district store and they showed me around and explained a lot of things. Remember, it's still part of the interview process, so be professional. A recruiter called to follow up with me about the shadow, and I then realized that some things were taken out of context.
I made it through and then met with a group leader and was again asked some situational questions, but also questions about my resume, school, other jobs and my favorite course. I was told I would hear back within the week, after a week I heard nothing. Followed up, got an offer soon after.
Remember to be consistent and clear!
Interview questions [2]
Question 1
Describe a time when you did something against company policy.
I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Target (Atlanta, GA) in Jun 2012
Interview
Initially applied online on the Target's career website. I heard back a week later wanting to schedule a phone interview with a campus recruiter. The phone interview was an initial screening process, that's pretty much it. I got scheduled an interview with a Store Team Leader (General Manager) that was in the district I wanted to work in. This interview consisted of a resume walk-through and 5 behaviorally based questions. I used the questions all over this website to prepare for the interview. It worked out well for me. I heard back later the same day to schedule an interview with 2 different interviewers - back-to-back - (a Human Resources Business Partner and the same campus recruiter I interviewed with on the phone). This interview had a total of 10 behaviorally based questions. The district I applied to does not have a District manager. Later that day I was contacted saying I was going on to the next round of interviews with a VP that consisted of 2 behavioral interview questions. This was the most laid-back of the interviews and the quickest. It took 10 minutes for me.
Overall, relax and have fun. If you be yourself, and that matches Target's vision of a person in the Executive Team Leader, then you'll get a job offer.
