Contacted by VP through social networking site and was asked if I was interested in changing positions, phone interviews, flew me to Chicago for face to face meetings, standard fare job interviews. Five hours of back to back meetings and was never offered a break or a bottle of water.
Impressive real estate, oceans of cubes, and endless toil. Flat out told me in the interview " we are not a proactive culture here, we are strictly reactive", My question, are you looking to change that ? Answer, No we like it the way it is, most decisions are made last second and by committee.
A manager showed me a system I would be asked to manage, and the team that runs the system, web based PHP mySQL system, loading pages and query results took minutes, not milliseconds they have been living with that for over a year a solid day with a DBA and a Dev and it could be perfect, but hey why fix it, it kinda works... That seems to be SOP at sears.
The people were nice, just in over their heads.
