To be perfectly honest with you, I'm not even sure what the job title would have been for this position! I got a call to schedule an interview and I didn't even think I had applied...but I figured, why not just go for the interview and see what happens? I got there for the interview and there were 2 other people waiting for what seemed to be the same position - one was a woman who was probably in her 40's and the other was a young man who had just graduated from college (as I overheard him tell the receptionist) - I'm 33. The interview was the strangest thing...it seemed like the person I met with (a senior partner) was trying to sell me on the job! I've always had to sell myself to the company... Then I had to take an aptitude test to see if I was even a good fit...hmmm... And at the end, I was told that he would let me know the results and I should call him if interested. I was confused - was he calling me? Or was I calling him? He explained that I should call him... I wish all job interviewers told me to call them if I wanted to pursue the job after the interview!
I applied online. I interviewed at New York Life (New York, NY)
Interview
Received email from HR asking to set up an interview for the position I applied online. No phone screen necessary. I met with three Corporate VP managers (30 minutes each) and last with the HR recruiter (10-15 minutes). The interviews were more conversational. They all asked why I was looking to leave my current company and to tell them about myself. The meeting with the HR recruiter at the end was more about my current salary, what my salary expectations were and how I felt about the team and position.
I received a phone call 3 days later from the HR recruiter; she gave me feedback from the interview which was overall positive and I was told the team would be making their decision in a week. Over 3 weeks later, I get an email from HR asking me if I would be interested in interviewing for another position with another team that they had open.
I later found out that the position I interviewed for was filled by an internal candidate and the managers that interviewed me actually referred me to the other position that was open.
I was a little disgruntled from the lack of communication or updates from HR.
