It was easier than I thought it would be. I did it via the phone and teams. I also did my prep via google for additional insight. They also require a screen.
Virtual interview into panel interview. I spoke with a hiring manager after the virtual interview giving me tips on how to handle the panel interview. Overall everyone I spoke with was friendly and give me good advice.
I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Lumen (Denver, CO) in Jan 2023
Interview
Lumen Tech Review: An Impersonal and Time-Consuming Process with Red Flags My experience with Lumen Tech's hiring process was extremely disappointing. From the start, the process was impersonal, time-consuming, and ultimately led to being ghosted. The first red flag was the request for a one-way video, which was a fairly time-consuming process. Then, they asked me to "play" games as part of the interview process, which was strange and childish. After that, I had a 30-minute "interview" with a recruiter, which was really just a sales pitch on how great the company was. I felt slimy when I hung up the phone and should have stopped the process there, but I continued. Next, I had a virtual panel interview with three people who never turned on their cameras. This was very unprofessional and inexcusable in a "professional" environment. Finally, I had a one-on-one interview with the director of a department. While the interview itself was laid back, I was told I would hear something "very soon." However, a month went by, and I heard nothing. I reached out to the recruiter who I had the phone interview with…They replied they were no longer part of the hiring process. Gee, thanks! I reached out to member in the recruiting department and they asked me to wait longer. Another 4 weeks went by, with no response. I reached out again and Lumen responded (from an un-monitored email account) with an automated email response stating I did not get the position. Which is totally fine, I just don’t understand why they blew all the smoke and delayed the response so long. It was clear that the company did not value my time or effort. After 4 “interviews” a call or personal email would have seemed more appropriate. Overall, I found Lumen’s process to be laughable, and the managers were no exception. While I dodged a bullet by not working there, I wasted about seven hours interviewing and preparing for interviews. I would not recommend this company to anyone, and I hope they improve their hiring process in the future.
