I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at City Year in Jun 2013
Interview
Lengthy, costly, annoying but workable, poor communication back and forth, no answering machine, I had to go all over town to collect documents for the job that were so unnecessary and the employer could have gotten it themselves if they tried to. My recruiter went out of town and didn't let me know, He never used an answering machine and I was unable to leave messages.
I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at City Year in Apr 2013
Interview
Phone interview in addition to a thorough written interview including critical thinking questions. The phone interview incorporated questions about working with young people, previous work involving leadership, and how you work with leadership. The interview was about 30 minutes long. If you pass the recruiter interview, there's a second one that's more about the job and individual expectations. You'll get questions about your comfortability around culture and working in a highly fluctuating environment.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at City Year in Jan 2015
Interview
In short, was called for several different positions. Had one - three phone screenings for each position and the recruiter was awful at following up. Accepted another position because the process took entirely too long. Several emails throughout the process went without response back.
I am an alum and have now years of experience. From my experience and after talking to others, it seems they are only willing to hire people right after their corps year or grad school, not anyone else. Unfortunate as others might have actual real world experience, which is not at all what CY is looking for.
