An employee referred me and I got a phone screen. The position was social media marketing. I didn't have experience in that area but let's face it - year 2009 and most people don't really have a clue about social media marketing. They create a twitter account and a facebook account, throw in a blog if they have some more initiative, and call it their 'social media strategy'. The woman who interviewed me had no clue about social media and in fact she told me a lot of ridiculous things - like advertising through reddit and digg. Now, anyone who has ever been on these boards will know that advertising through them will get you nowhere. Anyway, she rejected me outright.
You know the company doesn't have much of a future when the person interviewing you doesn't know her stuff and when you are shocked by the incompetence of half the people working there.
