Arguably my worse experience yet interviewing with a company.
Their interview is in 2 or 3 parts Optional Stage: An English Test (Which not everyone gets) I didn't receive an English test but a few people I know who applied when I did (both before and after me) got one.
Stage 1: I had a Hackerrank Challenge. 3 questions of which all my test cases passed. You need to score about 60 or 70 percent to pass this stage.
The Second and Final stage was one-on-one with an interviewer. The interview was divided into 3 parts. The first part was just a discussion of my work history which went pretty well. The next part was a question and answer session where I was asked language-specific things per the language I applied with. This also went pretty well. I was asked about 15 questions give or take. I only answered 1 question wrong out of all of them, And I know this because the interviewer confirmed this as well. The last part was a coding challenge. I was asked to share my screen and open a blank editor. I was given 20 minutes to answer a coding question. No referencing, and the interviewer was also not willing to discuss or share any ideas. I was able to solve the problem correctly and my output was also correct. The interview told me my solution is not a commendable solution and it shows that I don't have good problem-solving skills just because I used a solution that was different from the solution he had pictured in his head. For that reason alone I was told I don't qualify and that Andela has no place for people who use hacky solutions so I should reapply again after 3 months and work on my problem-solving skills. Seemed like a perfect interview. I failed for a very absurd reason.
