Pros

Unparalleled equipment quality; German engineering (what more can you say?); generally speaking, co-workers were committed people of tremendous integrity and intellect. Money was reasonable once you got into middle management.

Cons

Upper management took the focus from being out with customers to sitting at home office filling out endless CRM system requirements. Much more time spent doing "busy work" than being out with customers, prospecting, and creating value or finding opportunities to sell. Corporate culture was fun and engaging for a while, but it turned sour in just a matter of a few years. We used to refer to the president as the "Seagull CEO" because he was loud, obnoxious, pissed everybody off whenever he came around, stole your food, and then crapped on you as he left to go do the same to someone else.

Pros

Great product portfolio. New blockbusters are released often enough to not get too bored or feel like you've learnt it all. Supported by world class training and excellent 3rd level support from the factory. A much needed management restructure is ongoing and there are early signs of positive change by the newly appointed National Service Manager.

Cons

Current direct reporting lines seem blurred during the restructure leading to confusion when support is required. Wages are on par with standard service organisations but with the investment and training that goes in to each engineer, plus the types of equipment they're expected to master it would suggest that we need to hire and retain a higher calibre of engineer than just standard. Direct competitors plus organisations with equivalently complex instrumentation in different fields are offering higher starting and top end salaries (see Siemens, Philips, Leica).
