Pros

I spent 15 years at WorleyParsons. My time was split between two CEO's. John Grill who kept the company as an Engineering Firm. Andrew Wood who does not have a clue or is listening to clueless leaders around him. Mr. Wood's ideas of turning WorleyParsons into a Consulting Firm utilizing engineering "Sweat shops" in the far east has done nothing but wreck the company that John Grill created. My last 4 major projects with WorleyParsons were ended by the client because they were disgusted with the business model and the lack of a strong engineering presence within the company. The only Pro that I can comment is that I was lucky to work under the management of John Grill.

Cons

The company is in a spiral downward. Benefits are being cut, working hours changed, no coffee or tea in an effort to save money. The Business Development Team does not know how to secure the everyday engineering work required for every plant in the world. They just keep looking for the big capital project. The local Houston Senior Management Team is more focused on keeping the young just out of college engineers (lower pay) than they are the more senior engineers and managers (higher pay). It is almost obvious that pay and age discrimination is happening in Houston.

Pros

Generally great people at local group manager level and below, although many have been made redundant over the past few years. Pays well, compared to other similar companies.

Cons

Managers further up the food chain seem completely out of the loop with what's happening on "the floor". Double standards abound. Relentless push for 100% chargeability - if you're not, then take leave without pay (even if you're on a full-time contract. No investment in training, along with other insane cost cutting to try to preserve margins. Morale is obviously poor as a result. No push to diversify service offering - instead, waiting for the (oil and gas) market to "come back"....... A bit of a dinosaur, mired in outdated processes, eg. Hard-copy forms and the need to fill in the same details God knows how many times.

Pros

Local teams are great as they all work under the same unknown cloud that hangs over you every day.

Cons

No work on the books, making redundancies every week, no budget for staff training, no loyalty from Management, definitely an 'us and them' between boots on the ground and senior personnel. No communication.
