Pros

Professional working environment with exceptional employees. The World Bank is a large organization operating in almost all sectors of development and with international hires from across the globe. The benefits are generous and the work for clients very rewarding.

Cons

Given its size there are definite drawbacks in terms of bureaucratic red tape throughout the organization. Career development is somewhat lacking and requires the individual to chart their own path, which at times can be frustrating. Often times professional development and promotions are due to connections and functions of time spent in positions rather than based on merit.

Pros

Work Life Balance, overall mission of the organization, benefits

Cons

Too much politics, emphasis only on diversity not on skills, compensation not linked to performance, because on the one pay scales across grades, either people are paid too much or too little

Pros

Good exposure to clients across the world, multiple training opportunities, great reputation in the financial community, interesting work, opportunities for personal growth

Cons

Cons No work and life balance in regional offices, salaries paid out in local currency with no protection from devaluation, high level of red tape, disconnect between top management and employees, internal political games, tremendous stress, obsession to broadcast/promote your name within the organization, non-transparent evaluation of employees, no chance to have proper vacations, volume-driven culture to the detriment of reputation and employees, closed self-protecting culture with no place for whistle-blowers
