Pros

- Good work / life balance - Most people are friendly - Nice benefit (not crazy but better than nothing) - Good for a first job - Low risk of bankruptcy

Cons

- Difficult to grow, very dependent on your direct manager Specifically in regard of merchandising in the Berlin office: - Ridiculous and unreachable goals - (increasing quantity over quality) - Incompetent management - not everyone, obviously, but there is a trend to hire many people with a background in consulting that have 0 management experience and are not bringing any value whatsoever. They usually are terrible in dealing with people, helping them grow and possess little to no critical thinking. They push knowledgeable people out while being convinced they are doing the right thing, and are turning other teams against ours. Worse, many high level managers are being reviewed not on the happiness and efficiency of their team, but on their ability to 'amuse', 'entertain' directors and brainwash their reports. It does not encourage anyone to give their best - and it makes most of the people utterly unhappy. I have seen many very smart and competent people leave because of their managers, without them questioning their approach and their method. This definitely needs to change. - Boring work - not all teams are bad, obviously, and daily tasks cannot always be interesting. But in general some teams in merchandising are now not much more than a call center, with highly educated people constantly harassing suppliers to have more useless pug wall art on the website. - Strong micro-management. As managers are new and unsure of what to do, they think that controlling and overwhelming their reports is the solution. Nevermind if everyone else in the world knows that this style of management is not only toxic but also counter-productive. - Performance reviews are supposed to be private and fair. Eventually every one is being discussed with the entire management team during 3 rounds of calibration meetings (there go the privacy...) and people that are doing completely different work are being compared with each other to fill some quotas. Eventually if you are just doing your work very well, without trying to shine by all means, you will never get anything out of it. This is excessively disappointing and discouraging for many hard workers. - Recruiting - i honestly don't understand who thought that hiring random people instead of helping the current employees to grow was a good idea. - Growth - 'nothing is worse than promoting someone that is not ready' (sic). Employee are in charge of their development, but if their manager doesn't care about them, nothing will happen.

Pros

Easy-to-use system that basically does your job for you, good core values, free coffee and snack wall

Cons

Wrongful termination, improper sales taxing, providing furniture for migration camps for the government, terrible HR, Constant irregularity in stocks, weak management, weak bonus structure, false promises. Give a damn about your people and actually stand up for what you believe in and fight for them. After working for them 2 years prior, and leaving due to an uncomfortable situation between my manager and I, I decided to give them another go. Lasted 3 months, and I was wrongfully terminated because I had my cellphone out on my desk. Wayfair supposedly has an open cell-phone policy as noted in their employment agreement, guess it's not so open. I was told twice to put my cellphone in my desk when I wasn't even on it. Next thing I know, I get pulled into a room and terminated. No verbal, written, final warning. No explanation, no paperwork, besides a termination sheet. The HR woman that fired me, yelled at me and swore at me the whole time she was walking me out. Um...professional much? A week later, the manager that pulled the plug and decided when to go to HR and fire me, also got fired. A month after that, a friend of mine was terminated for being 10.3 seconds late signing in after a recorded computer issue(no verbal or written warning prior). 2 months following, another friend quit in fear of being fired. She got put on a final (again, with no verbal or written warning prior) for being .1% under one of her metrics.

Pros

The one thing no one can deny Wayfair is that they have a nice office in a great location. It's huge and you can sometimes get stuck waiting in line to get to work but the office is great. While the Talent Acquisition function at Wayfair is large, the teams they support are actually what make the role interesting. The recruiting team itself is not doing anything all that exciting or innovating. On the business side, there are a lot of really intelligent people that work on some interesting things.

Cons

Due to Wayfair's hiring needs, teams are vertically focused so there is no diversity to the work that you are doing. The teams are basically just working off a hiring queue and fill different roles with the exact same type of candidate (probably a consultant). The teams have extremely high standards but Wayfair is not willing to pay for the type of talent that they want. Not only are Wayfair's salaries low, they offer extremely low raises as well. No one can get a raise larger than 10% when switching roles internally (even if that means you make less than someone else in the same job). Several people were given raises of less than 3% last year which does not even cover the cost of living adjustment from year to year in Boston. Lastly, there is a lot of turnover. Expect to have several managers during your time there.
