You've probably heard the phrase "everyone has to have one bad job," and if you're still looking for that placeholder in your career development apply to this role now (and I promise you ,this role will be open because employees are in and out faster than a revolving door.)
Pay- The starting salary of 35k is a joke, but beyond that this team will overwork you well beyond the 40 hours that you are cheaply being paid for. I used to work about 9 hour days without more than 20 minutes for a break on a good day. Wayfair will not pay you over time for these hours, but management will surely give you dirty looks if you're the first one leaving the office (despite the fact that you were the first one in the office and sat for 9 hours straight.) Also, regarding bonuses you would think that all of this hard work would be paid off during the bi-annual bonus periods but you're wrong to assume so. Each employee has to fight for their bonus, fight for themselves and "kindly" against their coworkers. This fosters a GREAT "team" environment...
The actual job- I'm really sure that this role could have actually been successfully done by a trained chimp. In the simplest way of explaining, this role involves data entry and monotonous routines of mindlessly running scripts and copying and pasting. This role requires you to do the same thing over and over again all day, every day. There is nothing intellectually stimulating about this role, so if you've never been the brightest crayon in the box, this job is perfect for you.
The company culture- Terrible. First off, I've read that to work for a company and be happy there you should be proud of said company, and have trust in that company. I believe in these two criteria because Wayfair did not satisfy either for me, explaining why I was so miserable here. I've had the opportunity to speak with Niraj a few times, and every time I can't help but think that he sounds like a terrible salesman, trying to convince anyone who is listening that Wayfair is great. There is something in him that is extremely untrustworthy and I will not be surprised when that instinct is validated when he screws over everyone working for and invested in the company. Also, my department team consisted of women in their early 20s, all ready to get married, seriously. This demo really represents the job itself. These women are here to come and do their jobs, get their pathetic paychecks and have no career ambition at all. Even as team members are trying to advance within this department, I can hardly see how this skill set would be transferable to any reputable company. Our team did not use any of our "pod allotment" (money given to each team each month to sponsor team outings) and spent no time getting to know each other. If you join this team be prepared to talk about weddings and the bachelor..
I have been asked by so many people about Wayfair, and all I can say is seriously don't apply. There are better companies (pay, culture, experience, opportunity) out there. Everyone applies to Wayfair because they over recruit and underpay, but these qualities should be deterring factors. Ask yourself why are they underpaying, and why over recruit? Why aren't they paying deserving people and being selective about the employees here.. If I had asked myself these questions I would have never been apart of this company. (worked here for 9 months)
