Pros

Generally a good place to work. The majority of senior managers are amazing Some of the best minds in the business along with some of the most passionate people in retail. Wal Mart contrary to popular belief attempts too treat it's people the best it can. I have never had David Cheesewright (C.E.O) or any of the top Senior Managers treat me or anyone I've seen with anything but the most respect.

Cons

Unfortunately one might have to use this quote "Too many chiefs not enough indians". The approval process for anything can be horrendous, Wal-Mart as a whole does not like to spend money. Thats maybe just personal opinion, but a lot feel that way.. However, Wal Mart isn't the giant it is because it throws its money around.

Pros

Close to home, easy work, good hours, opportunities for advancement. Also, with the bad economy-job security is VERY good. WalMart stock is rising rapidly. Most of my co-workers are friendly and do a good job. The variety of daily tasks make for a non-boring job. Plus I get my ONLY exercise from working at Wal Mart :-) Wal-Mart also does a LOT of good things for the local community through charity works. The employees in the stores do a GREAT job taking care of each other when something bad happens(such as illness,death,etc..) It's really nice helping customers.

Cons

Putting up with rude and impatient customers. It's fast-paced work with many deadlines imposed by management. Some employees are VERY inconsiderate and seem to have forgotton how to deal with the public. Sam Walton had a "ten-foot" rule which is all but gone. I always acknowledge customers and try to help. BUT..it seems the door greeters never say hello to customers and RARELY acknowledge fellow associates.

Pros

There are a lot of friendly people. The CEO, Raul Vazquez, does seem to be a genuine, pleasant person.

Cons

Management doesn't appear to care about employees or retaining quality people. Little promotion within the company. Management are often brought in from outside the company and then come in with big egos but little knowledge about how this company works and tend to have little respect for the existing employees. Benefits are so so. Very few days off (holidays follow the few holidays that store employees get). Senior management in Arkansas don't seem to appreciate the work that is being done on the website. There is a big cultural gap between the people in Arkansas and the Bay Area.
