Pros

Wal Mart is a great place to start a career if a) you do not have a college education b) you find a "daddy" in the company and c) you are willing to live in Bentonville Arkansas for the rest of your life

Cons

Bentonville only has Wal Marts as a place to buy groceries......Wal Mart meat is okay but their produce is HORRIBLE. I drove down to Fayetteville every week to buy many of my groceries.....That's almost 30 miles EACH way! Also, if your spouse is not with Wal Mart it is difficult to get a job. Economy tanked here before most of the country, and Wal Mart decided to lay off it's entire textile division just when things got bad in 2008. Sent the jobs to NYC. Not the loyalty that Sam would have expected out of his people. SHAME ON YOU BOYS!

Pros

You get to see alot of people and see new products as they become available. You get to know alot of people and they train you and make sure you know the policies and procedures. They make sure you have breaks and a nice break room.

Cons

Not enough money for the work required and the stress of dealing with the public. You are on your feet alot. Management treat you like you are not that important to them. Sometimes you have to work longer than you planned if someone does not show up for work. Sometimes customers are not very nice.

Pros

Diverse career opportunities within W-M, stable employment, solid benefits, great opportunities for personal development, terrific location (Northwest Arkansas), positive company culture and values, diverse workforce. Living in Northwest Arkansas is terrific if you are not addicted to urban life. Reasonable shopping and education options and great rural lifestyle opportunities, especially if you enjoy outdoor activities, nature and college sports. Challenging job opportunities as long as you have your manager's support.

Cons

Large bureaucracy can sometimes be frustrating, information not always shared freely enough, politics at officer and senior management level can be counterproductive, frequently too much competition as opposed to collaboration internally.
