Pros

Work life balance Good pay Work on latest technologies Ability to change teams, if bored/dissatisfied Few good folks

Cons

Bureaucratic, political environment Insecure management, no clue about what's going on Quite a few mediocre folks around, but too many in management What's with some folks having extremely poor communication skills? Please don't hire folks who have contracting history as FTE. A lot of folks who are here for too long(you'll find many) tend to be bad. I think they are stuck here mostly because they can't find opportunities outside, and even if they do, they pay is lower than here. Sometimes the whole family barring their child(as they are not in work age yet) work here. Since they take home a significant pay home that way, they think they are very secure and really don't put much effort in work. They tend to be worse, are nasty to work with. They just don't give a damn about anything and play survival + rotating b/w teams game. Firing such folks even if you know they don't produce quality work is just hard. The more friends and relatives you have working here, the more rooted you are and hard to uproot. Usually acquihires are given good bonus+huge bump up in designation & responsibilities that they think are masters of universe and too smart, but they aren't. If you look them up, their career is just a joke.

Pros

Competitive salary, 401k matching, nice equity package for senior folks.

Cons

Management, technology, bureaucracy, culture, lack of innovation or vision, boiler-room politics. Reviews are handed out as patronage. Some teams have more project managers than developers. Results and/or achievement are not respected or encouraged. Managers only care about their head-count. They will do anything to increase it. Results and innovation are totally unrelated to all incentive structures. You come here to let your technical chops wither and die in exchange for a decent paycheck.

Pros

1) Stable pay and relaxed culture 2) Good amenities 3) Mixture of retail and technical leadership 4) Some nice human fellows 5) Brand name

Cons

- 10 percent intern to full-time conversion rate at a time when companies are striving to convert 75 percent of interns to full-time - So much politics. Managers will bring any number of people in but wont even think about hiring entry level talent. I was blatantly told no positions in the team and saw two people from India come in randomly. 3) Worst recruiters ever. Will pick any random person to interview. 4) Silos. Most of the team arent aware other teams exist. They have acquired companies just for resources. 5) Constant reorganisation. Teams in Arkansas and Sunnyvale cant mix
