Compensation is competitive. There are some great people to work with.

Cons

There are constant layoffs not related to performance. Many jobs are outsourced to india and Argentina.

Compensation and FiOS make Verizon a workplace worthy of strong consideration for the time-being

Pros

Compensation and new FiOS Internet & TV technology. The overall compensation is still competitive and beats some employers. In the geographic areas where FiOS is provided and planned, Verizon 'feels' like a real force that could successfully survive the tough economy. In non-FiOS areas with prevalent DSL availability that appears somewhat true as well.

Cons

Continual restructuring can impact perceived job security for low- to mid-level management. In non-FiOS areas, even some with DSL available, the future feels more uncertain with regard to selling off parts someday.

Very strong comp/benefits package, including great tuition assistance benefit; performance based culture that generally weeds out the incompetent quickly; strong emphasis on the customer and conducting business in an ethical way. A leading performer in a growth industry. Senior Mgmt takes a long term view and generally makes sound, business savy decisions; extensive online training offerings available on company intranet.

Cons

Work/life balance is a challenge in certain departments/jobs, especially the retail channel. Pressure to perform / deliver the numbers constantly drives some level of burnout, particularly in the sales functions; like any large company, there is some level of bureaucracy, but not overwhelming.
