Pros

There are certainly many perks that make Venmo a great place to work - free catered lunches every day as well as a large selection of free snacks and beverages. That alone can save one bunches of money each year. Also, the hourly pay rate for representatives is better than most of the other comparable job listings I've seen in Chicago. The workforce is overwhelmingly young and social, making it that much easier to go to work each day.

Cons

While the culture is easy-going, it's clear that culture is changing quickly, particularly within Support. Like in any company, rapid growth leads to a change in the quality of candidates that are brought on board, as well as an uptick in micromanagement by managers trying to control a rapidly growing team. This includes a workforce management team that's monitoring personal schedules and break time. It's difficult to feel motivated when it doesn't feel like you're trusted by management to do your job (even with a strong positive record). There's also a mandatory weekend rotation for any normal Monday through Friday reps, that has you working every 5-6 weekends (from home) , sometimes more often based on need. It's not the end of the world, but certainly an annoyance for someone who values their weekends and work-life balance.

Pros

Solid pay, free lunch/snacks/breakfast/coffee/etc, nice office, great co-workers, fun atmosphere, lots of opportunity to make impact. Seriously some of the best people I have been around, fun, smart, helpful, and kind.

Cons

Management is at best useless and at worst a hinderance, still figuring out how to manage the team and workflow, no truly senior engineers, product is becoming stale, heavy tech debt slows down development so much that new feature work is difficult to prioritize, health insurance is only okay.

Pros

If you trying to join as a contractor, there are no pros honestly. If FTE, it really depends on the team you're joining.

Cons

Most people in the company treat contractors different. They get overlooked, no 1:1s, no feedbacks, no patience or assistance to help them ramp up. And just get blindly fired if they're not having a "satisfactory" performance according to the manager (again, that doesn't even conduct 1:1s or provide feedbacks, not even giving a chance for the person to react).
