Pros

For most, the season pass for snowboarding and skiing is the draw. Certainly, if you are able to take the time off, it is a valued asset. Some of the people you meet become good friends. Enjoying winter sports in some of the most beautiful areas.

Cons

The list is too long. Some of the highlights: *Poor management *Too much work to get done in a short amount of time, with unreliable/limited resources *Terrible, non-existent exit strategy or procedure for seasonal employees (corporate) *HR is a numbers game that's totally focused on volume and not the individual *Complete disregard for new Colorado laws that legalize use of recreational medication *Managers who are judgmental and critical of candidates and fellow employees *Managers who openly practice favoritism among employees, based upon trivial criteria *Managers/Leads of departments who are power-hungry bullies who push people to obey, not to succeed *Nepotism to such an elevated degree, it's difficult to believe that room for advancement even exists for those outside of the 'cliques' *Total disregard for employees who work at the resorts. Long hours, low pay and ungrateful managers, who threaten employees constantly with losing their job, thus the winter pass *Emphasis on implementation of timely, costly projects that don't work *Unrealistic expectations are placed upon employees and then they receive terrible performance reviews, that almost guarantee NO advancement or re-employment opportunities *This company is openly biased to snowboarders *Promises, promises, with no intention of owning up to them *Employees are treated differently across the board. Example: uniformity during season's end in HR are non-existent. Some employees receive exit interviews and a performance review; some do not. *Too many to list

Great experience to live in the mountains and pursue a professional career

Pros

During my tenure '99-'07 the Corporate Office was located in Avon and being able to work for a publically traded professional organization and live in the mountains was a great opportunity. During this time Vail Resorts grew significantly and it was exciting to be part of that work.

Cons

In the aftermath of 9/11 the tourism sector took a major hit and it was hard to see the impact that had on the employees in the communities that survive on the tourism business. Vail Resorts had to make some unpopular decisions during this time and it was difficult to see the impact at a personal level.

Awful!

Pros

Ski Pass with access to some awesome mountains but just think, that's only 650$. And they can't take it away if you buy it. Everyone reviews about great experiences in the mountains but, again, not something that can't be procured alone, and ski culture is amazing no thanks to Vail Resorts. Great for 6 months. Not long-term.

Cons

Discriminatory (Both sex and sexuality) Management is delusional. No formal training, from lift ops to table service. HR is worthless. They appreciate Visa workers more than non-visas No reward for flexibility VERY HARD TO ACHIEVE A STATUS THAT OFFER BENEFIT EVEN AFTER 2 YEARS No raises. Ever. Many of your co-workers either won't shower or won't speak English. Or both. Awful systems in place. Horrible business practices. Undeserving people get promoted (familyandfriends) Corporate bully attitude (work or leave) Too big, too fast Snow dictates moods from angry guests if there's a lack of snow, and the employees that can't enjoy it when it comes.
