Pros

- Perks - Perks - And Perks

Cons

- Widespread acknowledgment of the toxic culture with limited action taken. Sarcasm is commonly used in attempts to build rapport. - Middle management lacks decision-making authority, faces excessive workloads, unclear objectives, and inadequate guidance. - Performance assessment centers on ruthless prioritization amidst unmanageable workloads, shifting priorities, and perpetual urgency. - Culture characterized by gossip and a favoritism-based network, emphasizing personal connections over expertise. - Limited opportunities for meaningful goal setting and achievement due to frequent manager turnover, hindering development and progress. - Superficial commitment to work-life balance, making it unsuitable for those who value health and hobbies outside of work.

Pros

You get a free ski pass and great discounts.

Cons

Horrible company culture and management. Extreme amounts of turnover. In my 6 months with the company, I had three different managers, and was the most senior member of the team. Starting on day one, I was bullied by senior team members, and received little to no support. I should have taken that as a warning sign, but loved the idea of working in the ski industry, and wanted to make it work. Each team is overworked, which leads to a feeling of insecurity and feeds into corporate blame culture. As a new employee, I often found myself being used as a scapegoat for other's shortcomings or inability to meet tight deadlines. Additionally, despite there being a lot of talk about welcoming "feedback," when I did try to have constructive conversations with leaders or team members, I was told I was being "combative." Working at Vail feels very much like "every man for himself," and there is little to no sense of community or that you are on a real "team." As an example, I was left off a meeting invite for over a month, and no one on my team thought to reach out to me, or ask why I wasn't attending. Instead they blamed me and used my nonattendance as an example of me shirking my responsibilities. In past positions, if someone is left off an invite, team members will first ASK why the other person isn't attending, and then try to be supportive and forward the meeting invite so that we can all work together to meet goals, rather than letting someone else fail so that they can look better. Vail is the epitome of pushing others down, or doing anything at any cost to get ahead. I had heard negative reviews before starting work here, but ignored, because I (shamefully) generally assumed those who left poor reviews were just at some level incompetent or difficult to work with. Please take this review as a warning, you will likely not be exempt from the toxic culture at Vail, and no, your team will not "be different." Do not work here.

Pros

Free Starbuck's coffee at the corporate office and "unlimited vacation", although don't plan on using the latter unless your boss is cool with it.

Cons

- By far the highest employee turnover, both voluntary and involuntary, of anywhere I have ever worked. - Management changes its mind with no regard for what it actually means to execute. - Poor compensation relative to skills and experience - Obsession with "grade levels" and hierarchy. Everyone has a number by their name correlate to title and pay. - Extreme disconnect from Executives to actual workers. Executives enjoy sabbaticals (which they love to brag about), stock options and long vacations. Minions expected to work any/all days and hours, push through understaffing and be nimble to changes for which they had no input. - Most contrived and disingenuous "culture" I have ever seen, get ready to drink the Kool-Aid.
