Pros

Good working environment, team working. Flexible working. Not too hierarchical, your voice can be heard Many opportunities for lateral career move

Cons

Slow, bureaucratic, risk adverse Lots of statements of intention but does not really materialise Compensation definitely below industry average Organisation gets flatter, with fewer opportunities to move up whilst more is asked for same level of compensation

Pros

It is a big company, with opportunity to move around a lot. You have to be a special breed to do it, but you may even get as far as a level 3 or 4, but that is only for the exalted few

Cons

The ideal Unilever person is one who joins with no real experience of how other companies work. You can be moulded into the company ideal, complete with inane phrases and three letter acronyms. With the required amount of arrogance and distain for both your colleagues, and especially anyone who you consider your subordinate, you will think your are getting ahead in the structure, but your goals will always just be beyond your reach. All the time your personal life will suffer from the long hours, and poor pay.

Pros

The systems, processes and knowledge are excellent in its industry. It is a great training ground for a professional in CPG.

Cons

- Increasingly frequent acquisitions, though strategic, are causing a continuous restructuring of the company, consequently causing a great sense of job/ future insecurity, forcing executives to take shorter-term business planning decisions and survive day by day, rather than taking a more strategic view of the business. Biggest challenge for Unilever currently is to manage a consistently changing internal environment and yet maintain its competitive edge in the external environment.
