Pros

I work with fun, young people. Most of the customers are a pleasure to work with. Lots of free training gratis and tons of newness all the time. I enjoy going to work most days, but I have lost interest and motivation because the job has become too easy for me.

Cons

Customer service is a stressful occupation. Some people are just foul and can't be made happy. I am asked to provide exceptional service to every single guest but then chastised when my "exceptional service" exceeds more than three minutes. I manage a two million dollar department but have little to no say in my staffing, poor pay, and little acknowledgment from upper management. My GM is supportive but the rest of the management thinks my job is unnecessary and a waste of payroll. There is no room for growth unless you want to become an AM or GM. If you are interviewing for this position and are offered a job, get as much money as you can up front. The raises only come once a year and they are always much less than $.50. You will have to work for three years to make $1.00 more an hour. You never get weekends off, and if your boss is like mine, when you do get one off it will be made into a big deal and you will be made to feel guilty about taking vacation time.

Pros

- The discount is nice - Gratis (mostly samples) - Customers for the most part value and trust your opinion. - On the weekends or during the holidays, the lines are long making time go by pretty fast and making it easy to meet your goals.

Cons

- During the weekdays it's dead and you're still expected to meet your goals - Hours are cut if sales are down, which is unfair if sales have little to nothing to do with you. - Pressure to sell magazines to customers who are clearly angry that you even asked. - Coworkers are mostly females and gay men, making the environment sometimes catty. - You get the feel from upper management that all associates are disposable. - GM is a joke. - Hours are given seemingly on a whim, not according to how well you do your job. - People are fired for ridiculous, petty things while favorites routinely get away with murder. - The discount is better at Sephora, the products are better at Sephora, the clientele is better at Sephora...and yet, you're constantly having to come up with reasons why customers should shop here. It's exhausting.

Pros

-Discount -Flexible schedule -Salon discount is nice That's about it.

Cons

-Horrible pay -Underappreciated -Extremely demanding for no reason -Made to bleach down the whole store (IN ALL BLACK!) but they won't provide an allowance for all the clothes you mess up -You're more of a janitor than a cashier -Entitled customers that don't understand the concept of a coupon with fine print. You've been a "loyal" customer for "years" yet you still don't know that you can't use a 3.50 coupon on Bare Minerals. -No breaks -You can barely keep water at the cash wrap and they when you ask to go get some they look at you as if you're going to be gone for hours. You end up feeling like you're an inmate smuggling cigarettes. -After 3 years, and constantly being recognized as the only person who contributes to Brand success, there's still no benefits, breaks, or pay. A .14cent raise? really? -The only reason I'm still here is because I like getting my hair done for 20 bucks :)
