A stable work environment.

Pros

The work environment is very stable.

Cons

The promotion process is still reliant on the buddy system. Basically if you have a buddy you want to move up you give that buddy a trial period in the job to make him more qualified than any of the other applicants and therefore the most logical choice for the position when it becomes available.

Pros

The United State Postal Service (USPS) offers a very family like atmosphere. I found that my co-workers really did care a lot about me and were very easy to work with. Like most government institutions, the United States Postal Service is bureaucratic but I found it to be less bureaucratic than other government jobs that I have had. I worked in United States Postal Service Headquarters at L'Enfant Plaza in Washington, D.C. which was a great place to work. Metro is very convenient and actually linked by an underground mall to headquarters. Lots of cultural events and activities for after work or lunch breaks.

Cons

Slow decision making process. Several senior-level employees are "burned out."

Pros

Paycheck decent, but you pay for it psychologically. Blatant disrespect, harrassment is the order of the day. Your reward for doing a good job is more hard work being given to you. They will use you up if you let them. The lettercarriers, especially, are the scum of the outfit...no respect. They only promote bums who couldn't do their job anywhere else.

Cons

People think it's an easy job, but it's not, and management forces you to perform unergonomic practices while delivering that are neither logical or productive. Try juggling three bundles of mail in your left hand and arm, and picking from the bundles like picking from a Chinese menu...one from column A, one from column B, etc.No wonder mail is misdelivered! No one knows the best way to deliver mail but the individual carrier, but all carriers are forced into a mold like they are robotic. Even left-handed carriers are forced to deliver with their opposite hands.
