Pros

Work with great people. I get to see all the people I deliver to. I am working for a place that I feel I can make a difference.

Cons

Being a carrier, I work outside in all types of weather. Sometimes I have to work more than expected on another route.

Not worth the salary

Pros

The money is good, you get Sundays and holidays off, plus one week of unpaid leave every year, guaranteed.

Cons

An extraordinary amount of pressure is put on the younger, newer members of staff to pick up the slack whenever older union members decide to slack off. No recognition for hard work. Delivery supervisors rarely have delivered mail in the past. New employees are offered no benefits or sick leave for the first year. After the first year, you're eligible to pay full price for insurance. USPS doesn't help with the cost at all. Hours are not predictable. You'll work 7am-3pm one day, 7-12 the next, 7-6 the next, then 12-4 the next. It's chaos. With the financial state of the Postal Service like it's been, management and above seem to be running scared, pointing fingers at anyone and everyone for what's going wrong. Solutions seem obvious but get blocked by obscene amounts of red tape and bureaucracy. Taking a job that paid half as much was well worth it to leave such a toxic environment.
