Pros

The pay was amazing. I started at 10 and within 2 months went to 13.75 that was the best part of the job

Cons

You literally have no life working there. Your dedicated to that job and only that job. If your not sleeping, your working. I was 20-21 at that time. I'm young, I should enjoy life. They made young people work 4pm-1am or 5pm-2am sometimes, while the old people worked mornings 6am/7am and got off between 3pm/4pm. That was unfair. This job was like a high school so much gossip, it was ridiculous. You don't get weekends off which sucked. No matter if it's snowing or the roads are icy, you still have to go to work. The managers are mean and bossy. I was terminated for missing work one day because I was sick. Which I felt was so wrong. I was discriminated against and I fought forever to get my job back. Unfortunately it took a year, so I just gave up. Also, there were old perverts working there.

Great if you're flexible

Pros

Good pay, the hourly rate doesn't really matter as an RCA. Each route is evaluated based on size and amount of mail it receives so regardless of how long it takes you it's the same amount(9 hours for my route). You can finish your route and work a few hours on another and end up getting paid for 12 hours even if you only worked 8. The job keeps you healthy, I lost about 70lbs since I started. Once you learn the job it becomes incredibly easy.

Cons

You must make them your number 1 priority. School, family and social life take a back seat to the post office. You will have a primary route but you could be called in on any route and delivering a route you've never done is stressful. With Sunday delivery now, you could be working 7 days a week and around Christmas you can expect 10-12 hour days.

RCA being a sub carrier

Pros

-High starting pay -If you work for an office that has a lot of routes and not enough subs you can get a lot of overtime -Being outside in the Fall and Spring (in the North East) -Potentially getting new vehicles in next decade

Cons

-With USPS now delivering all AmazonPrime packages RCAs are required to work Sundays and ALL holidays. -No job security. You basically have to wait for a full time carrier to retire and be the next sub in line to get a full time job (I've been an RCA for 6 years) -Unhappy coworkers. -NO benefits, vacation, sick days. I've had to come in on days when I had the flu b/c a full time employee called in sick. -On call -Being outside in the Summer and Winter
