Pros

Great pay and benefits. Some employee culture is great. Please be aware that you can't always just apply for a maintenance mechanic job and just get it. You may also start out at a lower pay level if you get a job as a maintenance mechanic (MM), as low as $53,864/year. However, we get raises every 8-9 months and COLA increases.

Cons

Management is often clueless, underqualified, and incompetent. When the USPS sees employees that are terrible at their bid jobs, they like to promote them as supervisors. That's a huge trend in my processing facility, and likely nationwide.

Pros

If you stay you will eventually be full time and the good government benefits will come. If you like to work alone and be outside, this job may be for you. Once you go into overtime (and you will) the OT pay is decent. Overall decent pay for an entry level position with no experience/skill required.

Cons

You are expected to work in all weather conditions (rain, sleet, snow, below freezing, excessive heat, etc.) and after dark (this can be stressful and difficult as some mailboxes are not marked, you cannot see potential dangers such as aggressive animals, and the darkness slows you down significantly), aggressive dogs (I was attacked and the dog's owners faced no consequences), you can be kept on the job for a minimum of 12 hours each day, expect to work 6 to 7 days each week plus holidays (without holiday pay), your work/life balance is horrible, management lets employees get away with bad behavior without discipline, perpetuating the hardships everyone else faces at work, you are considered part-time/non-career despite working 40+ hours each week (as I was) and do not earn sick leave, promotion/advancement is not based on merit whatsoever, it is strictly seniority based
