Pros

The pay was awesome!! Job allowed a lot of freedom once you got the hang of it. Guaranteed overtime daily.

Cons

Working for the post office equates to slavery. You work ridiculously hard for every single penny. I would never recommend anyone in their right mind to work for them.

Pros

Relative job security, decent insurance, knowing that you are serving your community.

Cons

You are treated like an animal. Unions are a waste unless you are black. The former mailhandler branch president and his cronies stole in excess of $100K and are getting away with it. Don't get me started on the open racism... Oh, and if you exhibit a work ethic, YOU will do all the work while your co-workers play dominoes or go socialize at the local 24 hour McDonalds. Management is related to most of the hourlies. Workplace safety is a joke.

Pros

The stability of its pension plan and retirement benefits are a very positive aspect. These are unlikely to change and ordinarily there is little down side risk of involuntary separations, making it a very stable workplace if you are willing to accept limited opportunities for career grown.

Cons

"Diversity" is pushed to the point that highly qualified Caucasians are by-passed to increase the number of Blacks and Hispanics in supervisory and executive positions. Another drawback is that down sizing of the Postal Service is inevitable because of mail volume declines. For the few who are hired, increasing workload per person and turnover in personnel create undesirable churning that can make tough jobs even more difficult (no, I won't use the politically-correct word, "challenging")
