Pros

The pay and benefits were industry leading for my position. The paycheck comes weekly. It always cleared.

Cons

Everything else. Every other possible metric reveals that UPS falls short. You are a replaceable piece of meat. It does not matter how hard you worked yesterday, or even how well you did yesterday. You are a piece of crap today, get back to work trying to meet impossible standards. Middle management are the true culprits, with first line managers bearing the brunt of their wrath.

Pros

The company is solid. Senior Management knows its place in the global economy. Promotions to senior positions are made exclusively from within. People stay for the long term. You are still considered a new comer until you hit the 15 year mark. It is not uncommon for people to spend their entire career at UPS. Decisions are always made by a group of people and not individuals. This leads to the promotion of many ideas and different points of view. From a technology point of view (which is my field), we are cutting edge. The drive of our technical people and CIO positions the company to be successful in the future.

Cons

Decisions are made by groups of people. Sometimes you just need someone to say "We're moving in this direction. End of discussion." Office politics sometimes trumps what's good for the company.

Pros

Best reason to work at UPS would be the benefits; or so I hear. I joined after they had changed their policy. It used to be part-time employees received full-time benefits right when they started, but now you have to wait a full year before you are eligible. I have yet to experience the benefits though, so I can't tell you about them. Also, the workout is great. I no longer need to go to the gym. ha. But all of the guys that I work with are extremely hard workers and UPS sure does get the 9 bucks an hour out of us.

Cons

I have yet to hear a "good job" from any sort of management. We work out butts off and there is no gratitude from the boys that are getting the bonuses. I see it as another person on here wrote: "be prepared to bleed brown". Most of the drivers work at least 10 hours a day, and that's not easy work- they are constantly walking back and forth, lifting boxes weighing as much as a person and freezing their butts off in the winter. All for around 25 bucks an hour.
