Pros

Great cause, great people. If you are looking to work with smart, open-minded and international group of people, this is the place to be. This is probably the best UN organization in Geneva.

Cons

Well, it is still the UN: rigid bureaucracy. Also, interns are not paid and the average age is pretty high. Not a lot of space for innovation.

Pros

None - it was an awful process and two ladies interviewed who tell all candidates that aren’t from their country that they need more experience and look down at clothing if it isn’t casual like they are (eg wearing a more formal dress for interview)

Cons

- discriminatory approach to recruitment, asked me many personal questions about private life - had already hired for one position (deadline end of week and by next week they had already filled the position). - for another position, they claimed it is lack of experience, but it is not the reason. - the process of recruitment is a waste of time as mostly internal or those of the country are hired but they don’t want to look bad so they just tick boxes to look good

Pros

Great benefits, opportunities to learn and travel for stretch assignments.

Cons

Extremely difficult to advance in your career, especially if you are national staff. Operational management is challenged and cumbersome. Salary is terribly low for New York and a good % of taxes are out-of-pocket. Heavy bureaucracy. I had great difficulty expressing ideas or making suggestions. Senior staff complimented my clothes much more than my actual work. Your satisfaction here will in large part depend on your supervisor.
