Pros

Good work/life balance Friendly coworkers Lots of resources and influence Short commute from West Side Nurturing environment

Cons

Closed minded, stuck in old ways Low pay for the area and limited salary increases Hard to advance Highly siloed and excessive bureaucracy Many unprofessional/under-qualified staff members Lots of old fogies who have been in their jobs for 25 years and have no interest in new ideas or interacting with newer/less experienced employees

Pros

It is helpful - if standard - to offer employment to current graduate students.

Cons

It is a giant bureaucracy so everything is managed completely inefficiently. I worked there for 6 months. I signed up for direct deposit in the beginning and it didn't go through until month 5. So I had to collect my paycheck every two weeks and they misplaced them twice and I had to have it reissued once. They deducted for a 401K and didn't tell me, and then cashed it out at the end of my 6 months and then penalized me for cashing it out AND then I had to pay extra taxes on it for the same!! It was $200 and I ended up giving half to UCLA and the Fed. gov't! It's like a scam - why would you set up a 401K for a 3 or 6 month job?

Pros

Beautiful campus. Casual work atmosphere. Awesome benefits and retirement package. Many staff work for 20-35 years before retiring.

Cons

Salaries are extremely low. Managers are promoted for being performers but don't have very good management skills. Extremely hard to get a raise or increase more than the yearly cost of living increase.
