Pros

The benefits are wonderful. The school offers several programs for staff enrichment. There are plenty of transportation/commute options.

Cons

Parking can be costly. Procedures are bureaucratic, but that's the nature of the public school system.

UCLA Engineering does not care about staff

Pros

Interesting and intelligent coworkers. Some positive interactions with Faculty. Great students. You would never feel embarrassed to say you work at UCLA.

Cons

Although UCLA School of Engineering is at the forefront of some of the most interesting research in the world, staff are so far removed from any of it that they find the work to be uninspiring, unnecessarily bureaucratic, inflexible, old-fashioned. There is no staff development and no staff advocacy on a policy level. Faculty and administration don't value good staff and don't understand why institutional memory is important, particularly in a university.
