Pros

Excellent work life balance. Excellent benefits. Access to UCLA perks, such as campus events and libraries and UCLA discounts. Lots of autonomy if you are in the right role. It's rewarding to contribute to the university. Work deadlines and goals are much less stressful than the private sector.

Cons

Bureaucratic! Depending on your department or manager, there's not a lot of ability to make change, or use the best and newest technology. You have to fight to put modern tools and systems in place. Pay is typically below market.

Pros

Great benefits: - Access to comprehensive fitness centers for ~$20 a month - Royce Hall ticket discounts Lively campus atmosphere There's a lot of opportunities for professional development - you just gotta find it

Cons

Mainly the lack of mobility within departments. Most of the time if you want a raise or a promotion you have to jump departments within the university.
