Low pay but low effort

Pros

Good subreddit to talk with other tutors.

Cons

The pay is very low and there are no guarantees that you will be able to get hours to work. Your pay and the number of hours available will be more reflective of your state's labor laws than anything else. You will also be micromanaged but depending on who your QS is this might not be so bad. Misclassification as Independent Contractor is common.

How it feels to be a tutor at tutor.com.

Pros

The hours tutor.com has are quite flexible. You can choose to work at any time in the day via "floating". Since the job is remote, you also can cater your environment to be perfect for the way you want to tutor.

Cons

Sometimes, the scheduling can be a bit unfair. If you are late to schedule, you may not get any predetermined hours and will have to float. Also, due to the system not being as regulated as other tutor platforms, you may occasionally find students who are only looking to cause trouble and do not adhere to policies.

Mixed Bag

Pros

- extremely flexible hours - Variety of subjects - get paid during scheduled hours even if students don’t appear

Cons

- mediocre pay usually - Quality control is entirely contingent on who you get assigned - lot of mindless work for degree mills
